More Than Social Media

More Than Social Media: How Welton Media Is Helping Sport Parkinson’s Build a Movement

From grassroots golf academies to major sporting events, Welton Media is helping Sport Parkinson’s turn its message into meaningful engagement, stronger communities and sustainable growth.

Social media is easy to underestimate. A few posts, the occasional photograph and a monthly update might seem enough. But building a genuine online community, raising awareness and attracting corporate sponsors takes much more than simply showing up on social media.

It takes a strategy, consistency, creativity and, most importantly, a team that understands what you want to achieve.

That’s exactly what we’ve been building alongside Sport Parkinson’s.

At Welton Media, we’re not simply an external agency producing content and ticking boxes. We’re part of the team, working closely with Sport Parkinson’s to develop its social media strategy, strengthen its marketing and help more people understand the life-changing impact that physical activity can have on those living with Parkinson’s.

A strategy built around people, purpose and progress

Our work starts with regular, timely meetings to discuss objectives, review progress and agree on the outcomes we want to achieve. We establish milestones, measure performance and identify the key stakeholders we want to engage, support and encourage to become part of the Sport Parkinson’s community.

This means every piece of content has a purpose. We’re not posting simply to fill a calendar; we’re building awareness, encouraging participation, strengthening relationships and helping the charity reach the people and organisations that can make a difference.

And because we’re involved in the bigger picture, we can respond to opportunities as they arise, keeping the content relevant, engaging and connected to the charity’s wider ambitions.

Being there makes all the difference

Some of our most valuable work happens away from the desk.  We’ve been alongside Sport Parkinson’s at their signature events, including the Walking Football Tournament at St George’s Park, their Try-Athlon at Twickenham and the Five Nations Golf Tournament at The Belfry.

Being there allows us to capture the atmosphere, the personalities and, most importantly, the stories.  We film and share the experiences of celebrities, ambassadors and community members, showing what happens when people living with Parkinson’s discover new ways to stay active, challenge themselves and connect with others.  These are authentic stories that deserve to be told, long after the event is over. They demonstrate that Parkinson’s doesn’t have to mean giving up the activities you enjoy or losing the opportunity to try something new.

Over the summer, we’ve developed a continuous flow of original, engaging content that brings these stories to life across Sport Parkinson’s social media platforms.  It’s about more than views. It’s about helping someone feel inspired to attend an event, encouraging a family to explore an activity or showing a potential sponsor the difference their support could make.

Consistency creates confidence

One of the biggest challenges for any organisation is maintaining a consistent online presence while managing everything else that comes with running a business or charity.  That’s where having a dedicated marketing partner makes a real difference.

Over the past six months, we’ve been producing Sport Parkinson’s monthly newsletter, keeping its community informed about events, fundraising achievements, new opportunities and inspiring people. The newsletter is achieving an 85% open rate and a 30% click-through rate to website content, demonstrating just how engaged its audience is.

We’re also writing two blogs each month, helping to keep the community updated while providing useful content that supports the charity’s wider marketing objectives.  And the results are reaching beyond the digital space.

Sport Parkinson’s Golf Academies have grown from being hosted at one golf course to 10 golf clubs across the country, with more expected to join in 2027.  Our role is to help communicate these opportunities, share the experiences of those taking part and make it easier for people to discover and book activities.

We’ve also recently established a presence on LinkedIn, creating an additional platform to connect with businesses, decision-makers and potential corporate sponsors.  For a charity looking to build partnerships and grow its reach, that visibility is incredibly important.

The results speak for themselves

This month alone, Sport Parkinson’s has experienced a significant surge in activity across its social media platforms.

Facebook

  • Engagement up by 391%
  • Growth in followers

Instagram

  • More than 120,000 views
  • Over 200 new followers
  • Engagement exceeding 25%

X

  • Engagement reaching 9%
  • Increased impressions and new followers

These figures reflect the impact of a consistent approach built around original content, real stories and meaningful interaction.  Rather than relying on paid advertising to generate attention, we’re focusing on creating content that people genuinely want to watch, read, share and engage with.

When content is relevant, engaging and published consistently, it can build trust and encourage organic distribution by the platforms themselves. While organic growth can never be guaranteed, a strong strategy gives it the foundations it needs.

Just as importantly, we take the day-to-day hassle away from the team. Posts go out as planned, the community receives regular updates, and supporters, partners and sponsors are recognised and thanked for their ongoing contribution.

That consistency helps maintain relationships and keeps Sport Parkinson’s visible to the people who matter.

Marketing that makes a difference

For us, this partnership demonstrates what effective marketing should look like.

It isn’t about chasing vanity metrics or posting for the sake of it. It’s about understanding an organisation’s purpose, communicating its value and creating a sustainable structure that supports its ambitions.

Sport Parkinson’s has a powerful story to tell. Our job is to help more people hear it.

Whether you’re a charity looking to grow awareness, a business wanting a more professional social media presence or an organisation struggling to find the time to keep your channels active, the principles remain the same: strategy, consistency, original content and a clear understanding of your audience.
