Wimbledon wild card for Marcus Willis!

21st June 2017

Steve Darcis (BEL) won the 16th Liverpool Hope International Tennis Tournament beating Marcus Willis (GBR) 7-5 6-3 in glorious conditions at Liverpool Cricket Club.

Marcus Willis, who incredibly made it to the second round of the main draw of Wimbledon last year year having won two qualifying events, was playing in Liverpool for the first time. Marcus was hoping to get a wildcard into the main draw of Wimbledon this year and his match against Darcis (ranked 330 places higher in the ATP rankings) has been fantastic preparation for the British hopeful.

Willis won six matches to qualify last year, before beating a top-100 player in the first round and losing to Roger Federer on Centre Court in the second.

He will definitely be at Wimbledon again this year as he has received a wildcard for the doubles.

Well done Marcus!

Welton Media were there to film his finals display in Liverpool at the weekend.

Here is the official finals day video.
